I was taught to fight

I was told to fight
I was taught to write
I was taught to write?
I need to write
I need to write about what I'm fighting for
I'm fighting for my right and that what I'm writings for
Is it right that I have to fight for my right?
Everyone is supposed to be born with his/ her rights
Let me express section 16 of our constitution as the freedom of expression
There is no substitution for section 11 as everyone has the right to life
Why do I have to fight for my right

The struggle taught me to fight
Fighting people with guns
Fighting elders with oppressive minds
As the young child
Carrying stones with anger
Where existence on it own was danger
Fearing for my life was my daily bread
Freedom of expression costed my breath
Singing songs of the struggle
Gunned down for our voices
Where life never gave us any choices
As the youth, our hands needed to interlock
As leaders of the struggle, our minds were intertwined
We never threw stones at the police
Our stones were triggered by the triggers they pulled
Only the last man standing would remain to rule
A bullet opened her chest
Her tears were shared with the rest
Blood out of the mouth
More blood out of her eyes
And out of her ears
Was this in-vain she asked as she died
Let us all be the answer to her question
Let's break the circle of poverty
Let's stay in school and better ourselves
The youth that fought for freedom fought a different enemy
We owe it to them that we live a better life they would want for themselves
We posses similarities in terms of energy and challenges
They fought against racism and freedom
We are fighting against poverty and diseases
We are tired of empty rhetoric statements from the Government
We are the youth with the intension to transform the world
We are the youth that is fighting for freedom
We are the youth of yesterday, today and tomorrow
We are the youth that seek growth in a civilized and profound way
We owe it to the youth of yesterday to be the best that we can be
We owe it to our children to be the change that we want to see in them
I was told to fight, we were told to fight and our fight will never be invain
